Update; shortly before he turned three, Fergus started limping quite badly and was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and patellar luxation (this means the knee is dislocating i.e. "popping out")  in both legs. The patellar luxation is graded 1 to 4 and he had level 3 on left leg, and 2 on the right. What that meant for Fergus is on the left his knee was popping out on a regular basis, and he was unable to walk properly until it popped back in place. The limping increased fairly quickly in a number of weeks and he appeared to be in pain as well. Thus, the left leg required surgery right away. Surgery for left leg - both hip and knee - performed on April 20th. It was rough going keeping him isolated and jump-free (he likes to jump) for 5 or 6 weeks, but he appears to be mostly recovered now. He has a slight skip when he walks now, as his hip was shaved off as I understand it, such that left leg is a few cms shorter, and he has permanent pins in his knee. He lost a lot of muscle tone in his left leg and has gone from 22 to 21 pounds though he appears to be eating enough now to make up for that! As for the grade 2 on the right leg, he appears to be walking normally now so we are going to monitor and hopefully will not have to put him through such major surgery again at least in the near future.

Sorry to hear what your furball went through but am very relieved that he is doing well now. Just came across your photo book and in a matter of few minutes I watched him grow up. Such a handsome boy congratulations.

I couldn't help but feel a bit of envy when reading how big he grew. My boy MC will be 4 years old in August and he barely weighs 13-14lbs. He is not starving so not sure why he didn't grow more. Still we love him to bits.

Fergus wil be five this April. He tops out around 23 pounds. He likes to eat, groom himself for four hours, and silently judge those who live with him, especially the dog.
